Recently, we shared with you our special vision to meet South African youth right where they are with the messages from Reach4Life Bible that not only change, but GIVE life!
We want to bring the Reach4Life Bible off its pages and into the hearts of teens through a captivating video series. In order to make this possible, God has pieced together a strong team of passionate members with various strengths, perspectives, and talents. But our roster is not complete without you! To refresh you on our starting lineup… First up, Reach Africa was established by Tim and Leslie Black as a vehicle for transformative impact and meaningful change for young people in South Africa. Many projects have been launched and needs met through Reach Africa bridging the gap. Then we have Scripture Union South Africa (SU)! With nearly 100 years of passionately serving young people and communities to make God’s Good News known, SU is the ultimate catalyst for this special project. Its deep local and global connections and expertise will bring this curriculum to our teens in South Africa and beyond. Tim has the privilege of leading the SU SA team. Next up, Slingshot Media and Terran Williams will be bringing it all to life! Since 2007, Slingshot Media has been compelled by their passion for visual storytelling that ‘opens eyes’, starts dialogue, and ultimately ‘changes perspective.’ Their unique skill set multiplied by Terran’s personality will give this series its advantage in engaging youth. Hear more from Terran on this project here. To round it out, we need you! Through your generosity, we will be able to bring this project from prayers and dreams to a high-quality, finished product with tangible impact! We are gaining momentum on this project. Help us cross the finish line! Learn more and give here. Reach Africa and Scripture Union SA seek to develop young people socially, mentally, spiritually and physically. Scripture Union SA has a long legacy, nearly 100 years, of children's work that has not only enabled young people to 'know and walk with God' but has pushed the boundaries for community transformation across South Africa. This has been an incredibly challenging year. Would you consider a gift that would help us close the funding gaps we have experienced in Scripture Union South Africa? Every dollar makes a massive difference! Tim Black, General Director of Scripture Union South Africa and Director of Reach Africa turned 60-years-old on September 29! To commemorate 60 turns around the sun, Tim wants to celebrate by making a transformative difference in the lives of young people, something that has always been really close to his heart. And he would like you to join in the celebration! A Virginia USA native, Tim and his family have been living in Cape Town, South Africa for close to two decades; it’s a place they call home. Tim says “South Africa is an amazing country filled with incredible diversity, experienced in the beauty of its landscapes and the faces of its people. Our desire, whether in the US or in SA, has always been to join with the local church to facilitate a movement of the gospel that engages poverty and inequality in a way that makes Jesus known and worshipped. As I look back on 60 years, and particularly the last two decades of ministry work in South Africa, I’ve been reflecting on the many stories that have shaped me, my family and the work God has called us to do. God is the great storyteller and there are many more stories to be told. I’m turning 60 with great expectation!” Tim’s ministry in South Africa over the years has been interwoven with both mountain top and valley experiences. Despite the beauty of the nation and people, South Africa has been named as one of the most violent and dangerous places on earth and getting worse. A large portion of Tim’s work with Reach Africa and Scripture Union SA is focused on making a transformative impact on young people, many who are experiencing the hardships of violence, poverty, and trauma. A VERY special youth engagement project has been launched in partnership with Reach Africa and Scripture Union SA to celebrate Tim’s 60th birthday! This project will bring the Reach4Life Bible alive digitally for young people of all ages. Teaming up with Sling Shot Media and author/speaker and former SU staff worker Terran Williams, a state-of-the-art video series will be produced to engage young people with the gospel in ways that are contextual, timely, and relevant. These high-quality and captivating video tools will meet young people right where they are with a life-changing message and a mentoring/discipleship journey to bring about life-long change. Issues youth face will be addressed head on such as peer pressure, substance abuse, sexuality, identity, gang violence, and more – all pointing young people back to Scripture. By leaning into the relational muscle of Scripture Union’s decades of school’s work, this video series will impact many thousands of young people around the country, and millions around the world! Just as the Reach4Life Bible has had a global impact in the lives of young people, the global footprint of Scripture Union is a platform from which we believe this tool could bring transformation to millions of lives, starting in South Africa and moving across the world. Here’s Terran to share this vision. And Slingshot’s expertise is quite special. Now you know why Tim is so passionate about seeing this project completed! The potential for seeing the lives of young people impacted by the gospel through this incredible tool is massive! So, this is what is needed: Tim has a BIG goal to raise $30,000 in 60 days to fund this project. By meeting this goal, 100% of the filming and productions costs will be covered, and the series can begin to make an impact! Would you consider a gift toward this celebration? GIVE TODAY You’ll be hearing more from Tim and the team throughout this campaign. We can’t wait to tell you more about this incredible opportunity over these next few weeks. Please be on the lookout! And please be sure to wish Tim a happy birthday on Reach Africa’s Facebook page! On behalf of Tim, Reach Africa and Scripture Union SA – THANK YOU!! Trusting God for more captivating stories in the future! Praise:
