Happy 2021! So far this year bears a lot of resemblance to last year, but we’re hopeful that things will start turning around soon with regard to Covid-19. If not, at least we have a better idea of how to navigate things now than we did 11 months ago.
In December we were able to spend about a week on a lovely farm in a remote area a few hours outside of Cape Town. Tim was utterly exhausted after such a challenging year, and the break was a huge blessing. We swam in rivers and rock pools, read, and relaxed. We came back to Cape Town for Christmas, and then spent a few days at Karoo National Park before things started up again at Scripture Union. Hello friends and family! We are thrilled to have made it to December in a year marked by so much uncertainty and instability, along with so many "new normals." In spite of all of the changes, we are so thankful to have a Heavenly Father who never changes and who has promised to never leave us or forsake us.
Hello friends and family! It is amazing how time marches on in the midst of this strange season. In our last update two months ago, South Africa was surging towards its peak with Covid-19 cases. We're currently ranked 7th in the world as far as the total number of confirmed cases, but the new cases per day have dropped substantially over the past few weeks. The government has eased restrictions somewhat, but masks and social-distancing remain, and gatherings of up to 10 people are allowed in homes, but they are discouraged. As businesses try to get back in gear it is becoming clear that many did not survive the extended lock-down. The repercussions of all of this will be long-lasting, and we continue to pray for the Lord to guide us and our church on how best to engage with those who are struggling.
Hello! An awful lot has changed in the world since our last update in February. A few epidemiologists may have had an inkling about what was around the corner, but most of us were caught quite by surprise at the devastating havoc that Covid-19 has begun to wreak across the globe. We are thankful for the hope and security offered by Christ in every season of life. Though our daily routines have been altered significantly, our work has continued in new ways. We hope this newsletter will encourage you in this strange season we all find ourselves in.

Hello and Happy 2020! We hope that the year has gotten off to a good start for all of you. We are in the throes of summer here with plenty of hot, dry weather while you are likely dealing with snow, cold, and the unpleasantness of Winter. We hope this update gives you a unique glimpse into the activities around our work in Scripture Union, Mokone Primary and Common Ground Church. Thanks for joining us!
Hello! We hope our Stateside friends and family are enjoying a lovely and not too cold Thanksgiving weekend. It's beautiful, hot and sunny in Cape Town! Things are rapidly winding down here as we approach December and the summer holidays, but things have been very busy leading up to the end of the year.
Hello! It's been nearly three months since our last newsletter, and we've moved from a lovely, wet winter into a beautiful spring. We're finally ready to try this new format, and we hope that you will find it easy to access and read. We would love to hear your feedback!
The year is continuing to fly by, and it’s past the halfway mark! We are well into winter here with plenty of cold, wet weather. After the recent drought no one dares complain about rain, and we’re thankful that the reservoirs are filling up nicely.
Things have been very busy at Scripture Union. There have been some staff changes, and Tim has been traveling to different regions to help with budgets and fundraising plans. His trip to the U.S. in April was good and will hopefully bear fruit as he re-establishes relationships that have gone quiet in recent years. The first quarter of 2019 has come and gone, and it was filled with a whirlwind of activities and many joys and challenges.
Tim has been introducing many changes at Scripture Union, and though change is always hard, most of the shifts have been welcomed. He is finding that as an “outsider” he has a fresh perspective and can see things that others may have missed. |
